On September 24 and 25, the European Parliament celebrated Multilingualism Day. Several translation and interpretation workshops took place on this occasion, as well as guided tours of the House of European History. An online translation workshop allowed Maaike De Waele, linguistic specialist and project manager at Untranslate, to peek behind the curtain.
Hands-on translation workshop
As part of this interactive English-Dutch translation workshop, the participants could benefit from an expertise coming straight from the European Parliament: that of translators Eva Provoost and Dimitri Tielemans. The activity was broadcast live from Luxembourg. A text to be translated from English into Dutch was first distributed to be analysed sentence by sentence in order to identify the difficulties. Fascinating!
